  • 350 gr. wheat flour
  • 25 gr. yeast
  • 130 ml. whole milk
  • 100 gr. of sugar
  • 75 gr. unsalted butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 orange
  • 1 tablespoon of aged rum
  • 1 tablespoon orange blossom water
  • 1/3 tablespoon fine salt
  • Candied fruit to taste

Preparation of roscón de reyes

You are going to learn how to prepare a delicious roscón de reyes following these simple steps, and thus surprise everyone in your house when they visit.

  1. The first thing is to dissolve the amount of yeast that we indicate in the ingredients in 130 ml. of milk for about 15 minutes, so that the yeast is activated. It is best if the milk is warm or at room temperature. If you have added a block of yeast, move your fingers in the glass of milk so that it dissolves sooner.
  2. In a large bowl add 320 gr. of flour, sifting it well, the 30 gr. that you will use later. Grate the orange peel and add it to the flour, along with all the sugar. Stir well and allow 15 minutes for the yeast to dissolve in the milk.
  3. Ready, add the milk with the yeast and use a spatula to mix everything, until something very similar to a porridge is formed.
  4. When you have the porridge ready, add the butter together with the tablespoon of rum, the tablespoon of water, the egg yolk, the salt and the orange blossom. Stir everything, better with a mixer or low power electric rods, until something similar to a very sticky but consistent ball is formed.
  5. Pour a little flour on a totally flat surface, as well as on your hands, and begin to knead the ball that you have prepared so that it becomes stronger. Also use a roller to work it better. You will know that you have it ready when you roll it on the table and it does not stick.
  6. With the dough ready, make a ball, pour a little flour in a bowl and in the dough and put it in said bowl. Cover it with a cloth and leave it in a warm place for about three hours, so that it increases in size thanks to the yeast.
  7. While preparing a tray with parchment paper on top, so that it does not stick to you when you go to bake it.
  8. Take the ball out of the bowl, knead it well and form a ball again. Make a hole in the center and with both hands open the hole to give it a roscón shape, trying to make it look as good as possible. Try to make it about the size of the tray you are going to use for cooking.
  9. Now cover the roscón with parchment paper and leave it in a warm place to increase its size for about half an hour.
  10. Ready, beat the egg and paint the surface. Decorate the roscón with the candied fruit of the flavor that you like the most.
  11. Put the oven on at 160º C, giving heat up and down. When it reaches its temperature, put the roscón and leave it inside for about 25 minutes.
  12. Cover with icing sugar, or with normal sugar, and you have the roscón de reyes ready to enjoy the holidays.
